A marvellous day…
Saturday. It came to us that this day should be interesting and spontaneous. So, the only thing we knew in advance was that we would like a range of programs one after the other and to only think of one at a time.
Our first destination was a fabulously picturesque place in nature, which is at the edge of the city, and yet it is like a quiet riverside in the country. Interestingly, a huge section was left out between the city and the suburbs, which offers a tranquil atmosphere with woods, sports grounds, bike paths, and the winding Yarra River.
This is where we began with a morning walk and the morning fog turned into a bright and sunny day. We sat down at the Boat House Café to have coffee. Dodi drank ice coffee this time. He almost never drinks coffee though. I drank the usual cappucino. We talked about our upcoming trip, etc. This is where we thought of the next place – to buy magazines and to go down on the beach to read.
We went to Glenferrie Road, to eventually find a newsagency, as this is a long strip of road, where there are plenty of stores. We started window-shopping, the sun was shining beautifully, it was beginning to get quite hot, we went ín to a games shop, where we stumbled upon many interesting board games and puzzles. I almost even bought a Neueuschwanstein Castle puzzle, but we thought we’d check out Ebay, where we can buy the same thing for a fraction of the price. Then we went ín to a book store, where we let the time go by. We bought a book, which we wanted to get for a few days. The title is Healthy at 100.
This book gathers information from four cultures and the latest medical science about how to extend human life, while staying healthy. We like it and find it useful. If it was published ín Hungarian then we definitely recommend it to you.
Well, we then managed to find a newsagency too and having gathered the reading material we headed for the beach.
Along the way we spotted a big warehouse building, which we thought was a furniture store. It turned out that they auction antiques. We looked around. We saw a gigantic ladle (which I called „sinking spoon” ín Hungarian a while ago), an old baby scale, an antique grandfather clock, church pews, coathangers made ín the early 1900s with the name of a clothing store printed on them, etc. We passed Albert Park Lake (the place where the Formula 1 Grand Prix is held). We found the right spot on the beach (a grassy area) and there we laid out the blanket and started to read. All the while the sun was on our back. It was so good. People were rollerblading, cycling, walking, running, lying around, the dogs and children were jolly…This was a really pleasant autumn day.
OK, from here we need to write the short version of what happened because we’re running out of time.
From the beach we went to eat at a Mexican place where we had delicious hamburgers, nachos with cheese, guacomole, salsa, sour cream and lamb strips. We haven’t been to this place before, but it ended up being a great experience!
We went home, I taught English for two hours. I love doing it and it works really well with MSN or Skype.
As the last program we went to see Perfect Stranger (starring Bruce Willis and
Halle Berry) ín the cinema. Queuing was a positive experience because there were between 100 and 150 people in front us and yet it was fantastic how the queue was moving so well. We didn’t have to wait that long and we even signed up to be club members. The movie was great too with a lot of unexpected twists at the end.
